Summary taken from Goodreads.

To start of, what a beautiful cover! I love everything about it. Especially the great colours, it really makes the cover pop and more memorable. Also, water on covers seems to be a growing trend and I really like it. Someone obviously put a lot of effort into making this cover and I am so very appreciative! Now to what the story is actually about. I didn't know at first that this was a retelling but now I'm even more intrigued. Also, I've never read the fairy tale, Tristan and Isolde. So this will be a whole new experience for me and boy am I excited. Looks like a very fun read, I mean love potion come on guys!!!

In My Mailbox (4)

Welcome to this weeks IMM!
In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi from The Story Siren.

This week I got:

Sweetly - Jackson Pearce (Goodreads/Amazon)
Sweetly (Fairytale Retellings, #2)
SWEETLY is a modernization of Hansel and Gretel and a companion book to SISTERS RED. Twelve years ago, Gretchen, her twin sister, and her brother went looking for a witch in the forest. They found something. Maybe it was a witch, maybe a monster, they aren't sure—they were running too fast to tell. Either way, Gretchen’s twin sister was never seen again. Years later, after being thrown out of their house, Gretchen and Ansel find themselves in Live Oak, South Carolina, a place on the verge of becoming a ghost town. They move in with Sophia Kelly, a young and beautiful chocolatier owner who opens not only her home, but her heart to Gretchen and Ansel. Yet the witch isn’t gone—it’s here, lurking in the forests of Live Oak, preying on Live Oak girls every year after Sophia Kelly’s infamous chocolate festival. But Gretchen is determined to stop running from witches in the forest, and start fighting back. Alongside Samuel Reynolds, a boy as quick with a gun as he is a sarcastic remark, Gretchen digs deeper into the mystery of not only what the witch is, but how it chooses its victims. Yet the further she investigates, the more she finds herself wondering who the real monster is, and if love can be as deadly as it is beautiful.

Vanish - Sophie Jordan (Goodreads/Amazon)
Vanish (Firelight, #2)
To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone. Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love? In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.

Summary taken from Goodreads.
My Review

Ok, so I have been avoiding writing this review for a few days for the simple fact that I just don't know what to say. I thought Bloodlines was an amazing novel on its own but I just can't help but compare it to Vampire Academy. Going into Bloodlines I think that the fact that VA is over still hadn't sunk in, I know Last Sacrifice came out last December. But I'm still hung over!

If you don't know, Bloodlines is the spin-off series to Richelle Mead's much loved Vampire Academy Series. It is set in the same world and features many of the character from Vampire Academy. When I first heard of Bloodlines I was actually really excited seeing as I love all of the characters and will take any opportunity to read more of this amazing world Richelle Mead has created. And I was not disappointed!

The book starts off with our new narrator, Sydney Sage, being woken up for some kind of late night alchemist business. The thing is that Sydney is still in trouble for her role in Last Sacrifice. We then find out that the new Moroi Queen's sister, Jill is in danger and needs to be taken away to a safe location until further notice. So that's where our story begins!

The plot started out slow and I can understand why. After all it is the first book in a new series and many things have to be set up. But when it did pick up I found myself so indulged in the story that it was hard to stop reading.

This book was mostly set in a private human high school in Palm Springs, California. I really enjoyed reading about this new setting and all the new struggles it presented the character with. I found that normal human problems was quiet a nice backdrop to all the crazy paranormal things.  Something that I especially loved reading about was the alchemists. You get a real sense of them, what they do and what they believe in this book and I found that really interesting!

Although we have met most of the character already in VA. In this book we really get to see and know them better. I thought Sydney was a great heroine. She was smart, funny and adventurous. These are some qualities of her's that we didn't necessarily see much of in VA. I really liked reading about Sydney's life, past, and family. I found myself really feeling for her at times. Overall, I really enjoyed having her as a main character.

Then there is the magnificent Adrian Ivashkov! I loved Adrian in this book even though he was a little depressed and mature in my opinion. There wasn't much of the old carefree playboy Adrian left. But I enjoyed seeing the more mature side of him and am looking forward to seeing more from his character!

In conclusion, I think Bloodlines was a great start to what is sure to be an amazing series. I loved Richelle Mead's writing it was amazing as always. I cannot wait to read The Golden Lily. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself until it comes out. I recommend this book to all fans of Vampire Academy!

More on the sequel, The Golden Lily:

The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2)

The Golden Lily - Richelle Mead
Release Date: June 19, 2012
Publisher: Razorbill

The second thrilling installment in Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy spinoff series.
Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought.
Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Richelle Mead’s breathtaking Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive. In this second book, the drama is hotter, the romances are steamier, and the stakes are even higher.

UK Book Trailer

Alright! So I'm sure we all know the Hush Hush trilogy and have been waiting eagerly for the third and final book to come out already!! I mean after that crazy cliffhanger in the end of Crescendo you would think that they would cut us some slack and release this book earlier..... Nope :) But not to worry! The release date is almost here and I don't know about you but I will not rest until I read this series. Ok, now that I'm done with my sugar induced rant, lets talk about the cover. I don't particularly dislike the cover, I find it pretty interesting. But it is not my favourite from the series. And the trailer.... well! Six pack anyone?!

Book Review: Moonglass

Moonglass - Jessi Kirby

Release Date: May 3, 2011

Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 232
Buy the Book: Amazon

From Jessi Kirby, a debut novel about confronting the past in order to move ahead.
I read once that water is a symbol for emotions. And for a while now, I've thought maybe my mother drowned in both.
Anna's life is upended when her father accepts a job transfer the summer before her junior year. It's bad enough that she has to leave her friends and her life behind, but her dad is moving them to the beach where her parents first met and fell in love- a place awash in memories that Anna would just as soon leave under the surface.
While life on the beach is pretty great, with ocean views and one adorable lifeguard in particular, there are also family secrets that were buried along the shore years ago. And the ebb and flow of the ocean's tide means that nothing- not the sea glass that she collects on the sand and not the truths behind Anna's mother's death- stays buried forever.
Summary taken from Goodreads.
My Review:

It didn't take much for this book to have me completely hooked. The cover is absolutely gorgeous and the summary is heart-wrenching. There is even a blurb on the cover from Sarah Dessen. But what really drew me in to this book, I think was this quote: "I read once that water is a symbol for emotions. And for a while now, I've thought maybe my mother drowned in both. "  No matter what I do I just can not get these words out of my mind. They are haunting and mysterious yet so beautiful.

The book starts off with Anna and her dad moving to a place called Crystal Cove. Where her parents first met and fell in love. Anna is horrified with the aspect of moving away from her friends, grandmother and the beach that took her mother when she was merely 7 years old. But upon reaching Crystal Cove, Anna is set on a wild journey of friendship, love, grief, guilt, and forgiveness.

Anna and her fathers relationship, though a little stretched because of all the grief and guilt they hold. I thought was very nice and realistic. Especially in the face of such a tragedy. You could see how much they really did love each other.

Another character was Tyler. Tyler was the cute life guard who Anna falls in love with. I liked how there relationship was slow. Developing from a sort of friendship to love. I thought that this was also very nice and refreshing.

Anna herself in my opinion was a very strong and gutsy character. Through out the story she battles with so much guilt and grief that she feels is her burden to carry and thus will not share with others. Most of her grief is based on her mothers suicide. She can't understand her mothers decision and is almost scared to ask and find out what's really going on.

Jessi Kirby has so masterfully woven together such a realistic and heart breaking tale. Moonglass had me on the edge of my seat. Although it was only 232 pages long, Jessi Kirby did not leave out anything. It could seriously give most 300 page books a run for there money. There was mystery, romance, tragedy. The concept of sea glass I thought was another wonderful plus for this book. I also really liked the history of the Cove and the empty cottages with haunting memories of the people that once lived in them. Overall, Moonglass is a fantastic book and I recommend it to all readers especially fans of Sarah Dessen!

Alright, so I first stumbled on this book by accident. But I'm so glad I did. Wander Dust is going to be the first book in a new trilogy called the Seraphina Parrish Trilogy. It looks really interesting and even a little different from other books. I mean "Lady in Black", "Grungy gang"! Sounds awesome!! And as always to top it all off there is the absolutely gorgeous cover and an awesome trailer to go with it! Unfortunately, the release date is pretty vague as it stated that the book will come out in the "fall of 2011". But on the bright side it should be coming out pretty soon and I can not wait to read it!
